Having a great smile can make a huge difference in the way you look & feel. Gentle Touch Dentistry offers a complete range of cosmetic dentistry treatments to create the confident smile you’ve always wanted. We begin with a detailed smile assessment, discussing with you which aspects you like & dislike about your smile. Once our assessment is complete, we will discuss with you some treatment options to help your smile look more natural, healthier & youthful.

Our office can improve the smile through various techniques and procedures. Common procedures performed include dental bonding, dental implants, dental crowning, teeth whitening, polishing, teeth restoration, teeth whitening, enamel shaping and porcelain veneers.

Dental implants are a modern solution to providing you with permanent replacement teeth that are strong, natural-looking and feeling, and offer superb, safe, and predictable long-term results. With proper care, implants can last a lifetime and have a success rate of up to 98%. The results of dental implant therapy are esthetically pleasing, and once your implants are in place you will feel like you have your original teeth back.

Dr. Vu is a pioneer in the use of guided surgery for the placement of implants. This technique is highly accurate and allows Dr. Vu to perform placement quickly, saving you time and often, allowing you to avoid multiple surgeries.

In general, anyone healthy enough to undergo a routine dental extraction or oral surgery can be considered for an implant procedure. Patients should have healthy gums and adequate bone to hold the implant and be committed to good oral hygiene and regular dental exams. Heavy smokers, people suffering from uncontrolled chronic disorders such as diabetes or heart disease, or patients who have had radiation therapy to the head/neck area need to be evaluated on an individual basis.

Today’s dental implant surgery has become simpler and less invasive because of new methods like guided surgery and advances in implant design. Dr. Vu routinely performs implant placement in our state-of-the-art office, usually under a local anesthetic. The treatment has two stages. First the implant is surgically placed with the utmost precision utilizing 3D software and CT scans. After 4 months of healing, the implant is ready to have the abutment and implant crown placed by the restorative dentist.

Under most circumstances, you will quickly recover and be able to see great improvement in your appearance. We always urge you to observe our post-operative instructions, which if followed properly will result in the shortest recovery time and best possible outcomes. Depending on the circumstance, Dr. Vu will prescribe medications that will help you recover more quickly, such as an oral antibiotics or a prescription pain relief medicine. In most cases you will be feeling and looking your best in what seems like no time at all.

Braces aren’t just for kids. Patients of all ages benefit from orthodontic treatment. Benefits include improved smiles, healthier bites, and prevention of undue wear and tear on teeth. There’s nothing like smiling with confidence, we offer orthodontic treatment options for anyone looking to improve their smile and live a healthier lifestyle.

The benefits of orthodontic treatment include a healthier mouth, a more pleasing appearance, and teeth that are more likely to last a lifetime. Crooked teeth and teeth that do not fit together correctly are harder to keep clean, are at risk of being lost early due to tooth decay and periodontal disease, and cause extra stress on the chewing muscles that can lead to headaches, TMJ syndrome and neck, shoulder and back pain. Teeth that are crooked or not in the right place can also detract from one's appearance.

How do I Know if I Need Orthodontics?

Only your dentist can determine whether you can benefit from orthodontics. Based on diagnostic tools that include a full medical and dental health history, a clinical exam, plaster models of your teeth, and special X-rays and photographs, Dr. Chau can decide whether orthodontics are recommended, and develop a treatment plan that's right for you.

If you have any of the following, you may be a candidate for orthodontic treatment:

  • Overbite, sometimes called "buck teeth" — where the upper front teeth lie too far forward (stick out) over the lower teeth
  • Underbite — a "bulldog" appearance where the lower teeth are too far forward or the upper teeth too far back
  • Crossbite — when the upper teeth do not come down slightly in front of the lower teeth when biting together normally
  • Open bite — space between the biting surfaces of the front and/or side teeth when the back teeth bite together
  • Misplaced midline— when the center of your upper front teeth does not line up with the center of your lower front teeth
  • Spacing — gaps, or spaces, between the teeth as a result of missing teeth or teeth that do not "fill up" the mouth
  • Crowding — when there are too many teeth for the dental ridge to accommodate

Braces Today

The most common fixed appliances, braces consist of bands, wires and/or brackets. Bands are fixed around the teeth or tooth and used as anchors for the appliance, while brackets are most often bonded to the front of the tooth. Arch wires are passed through the brackets and attached to the bands. Tightening the arch wire puts tension on the teeth, gradually moving them to their proper position. Braces are usually adjusted monthly to bring about the desired results, which may be achieved within a few months to a few years. Today's braces are smaller, lighter and show far less metal than in the past. They come in bright colors for kids as well as clear styles preferred by many adults.

If you suffer from obstructive sleep apnea, chances are you snore loudly, wake up with headaches, and sleep restlessly because you wake up gasping for air. These and several other symptoms may be signs of sleep apnea. Dr. Vu offers help for snoring and sleep apnea in the form of customized dental appliances that include dental mouth guards that are worn while you sleep. If you or someone in your family suffers from restless sleep, be sure to let our caring staff know so that you can be checked for sleep disturbances.

Gum disease, also called periodontal disease, is a degenerative condition primarily caused by bacteria found in plaque. The bacteria inflame and infect the gum tissues, and when left untreated, can eventually cause the gums to pull away from the teeth. Untreated periodontal disease can result in bone loss, tooth loss, and gum tissue recession

Signs and symptoms of periodontal disease:

  • Bleeding gums – Gums should never bleed, even when you brush vigorously or use dental floss.
  • Loose teeth – Also caused by bone loss or weakened periodontal fibers (fibers that support the tooth to the bone).
  • New spacing between teeth – Caused by bone loss.
  • Persistent bad breath – Caused by bacteria in the mouth.
  • Pus around the teeth and gums – Sign that there is an infection present.
  • Receding gums – Loss of gum around a tooth.
  • Red and puffy gums – Gums should never be red or swollen.
  • Tenderness or Discomfort – Plaque, calculus, and bacteria irritate the gums and teeth.

The treatment for gum disease is based upon your specific dental needs. Depending on the severity of the condition, our periodontist may recommend additional professional dental cleanings, improved at-home oral hygiene, antibiotic treatment, scaling and root planning (deep cleanings), or gum surgery. We strive to help you restore your oral health and halt the progress of the disease.
